Drawing Close
Art Therapy & Unity Project
Art expresses our internal experiences. Oct7KIDS’ program, “Drawing Close”, is a collaborative adventure and collective experience between Israeli children directly impacted by the October 7, 2023 violence, and the children of the Diaspora who have experiences the troubling antisemitic response in many cities worldwide.
“Drawing Close” utilizes ‘Art’, a non-verbal means of communication, as a therapeutic modality for children to explore their inner world. Art therapy sessions differs from art classes. Whereas art classes focus on teaching technique or creating a specific finished product, art therapy is more about letting the children focus on their inner experience.
The “Drawing Close” project’s goals are twofold:
1. For the Israeli children: a gentle, at their own pace, self-expression for therapeutic purposes.
2. For those in the Diaspora, the program fosters Jewish unity with their Israeli peers.
“Drawing Close” will take place in Israeli schools, camps, community centers, and youth groups. Creative art techniques include painting, collage, coloring, drawing, finger painting, photography, sculpting, and clay work. In the Diaspora, schools and community centers will be contacted and offered: 1) a sample Lesson Plan, 2) Goals and Instructions, and 3) Submission form for artwork exhibitions.
